Almost everything written about crypto in Georgia is really about Tbilisi and Batumi. That’s understandable: the capital alone has 133 of the country’s roughly 156 Cryptomat machines, and every registered exchange office sits in Tbilisi, Adjara or Kvemo Kartli. But it leaves a lot of people without an answer. If you live in Telavi, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti or Mestia, what can you actually do?
The short answer: very little in person, almost everything online. Beyond Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi and Rustavi, Cryptomat lists just four machines, in three towns, and none of them buys crypto back. The National Bank’s register shows no provider office in any regional centre. This page goes region by region so you know exactly what’s near you, and then sets out the routes that work from anywhere with a phone signal and a bank account.
The regions at a glance

| Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti | Zugdidi | 1 (buy-only) | None |

Machine counts come from Cryptomat’s own location list; office data from the NBG register dated 23.10.2026. The four bigger cities have their own pages: Tbilisi, Batumi and Adjara, Kutaisi and Imereti and Rustavi and Kvemo Kartli.
Kakheti and Shida Kartli: Telavi and Gori
Telavi’s two machines
Telavi is the best-served regional town, which isn’t saying much. Cryptomat lists two machines:
- Telavi Mall, Alazani 77
- Bimart, Rustaveli 73
Both are buy-only. They take lari and send BTC, ETH, LTC, BCH or USDT (on ERC-20ERC-20Tokens on the Ethereum network. Widely supported but network fees can be several dollars per transfer. or TRC-20TRC-20USDT issued on the Tron network. Cheap and fast transfers, which is why most OTC and property deals in Georgia quote TRC-20.) to your wallet. The operator doesn’t publish fees; a local guide puts all-in costs at Georgian machines at 6–12% including the spreadSpreadThe gap between the buy and sell price. A desk that buys USDT at 2.57 GEL and sells at 2.62 GEL earns a 0.05 GEL spread on each coin.. The rest of Kakheti, a region of about 312,000 people, has no machines at all, so Sighnaghi, Gurjaani and Kvareli residents are in the same position as anyone in a town without one.
To sell crypto for cash, the nearest machines that pay out are in Tbilisi. Our crypto ATM guide lists them.
One machine in Gori
Gori has a single Cryptomat machine at Nikora, Kutaisi St 24, buy-only. There’s no registered exchange office in the region, which had about 257,000 residents in 2019.
Gori has a footnote in crypto history: Bitfury opened its first Georgian data centre, a 20 MW site, there in 2014. It’s historical context only and has no bearing on buying today. Gori’s position on the main east–west highway makes Tbilisi the obvious place for anything the single machine can’t do. See the mining guide for the industrial story.
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti: Zugdidi, Poti and Mestia
Zugdidi
One buy-only machine at Kalata, Tabukashvili 3 / Kikalishvili 2. For selling, Kutaisi’s West Point machine on Shartava 2 is the nearest that pays out lari.
Poti
No machine and no registered office. Poti is better known for its port and its free industrial zone, set up in 2007. If you’re in Poti because you’re importing a car through the port and wondering whether crypto can pay for it, read buying a car with crypto: the seller must be paid in lari or dollars after conversion through a registered provider.
Mestia and upper Svaneti
No machine and no office. Mestia shows up in crypto news for a different reason. Households there have had free electricity since the 1990s, and the municipality used about 133 million kWh in 2025, roughly 13 times comparable areas. On 1 June 2026 the government announced metering for homes and villages, with power free only up to a cap, and police seized 148 mining devices at six locations and then 76 more. Running miners on stolen power can bring criminal charges. The full story is in our mining guide.
Adjara beyond Batumi: Kobuleti and Sarpi
All of Adjara’s machines are in Batumi. Kobuleti has none, and no registered office. One Batumi agency lists a Kobuleti apartment project, Petra, among properties it says can be paid for with crypto. As everywhere in Georgia, that means conversion through a registered provider, not a direct crypto payment to the developer; see buying an apartment in Batumi with crypto.
At the Turkish border, Coinero (NBG registration 0030-9404) has a registered branch in Sarpi village, Khelvachauri municipality. Coinero’s head office is on Kazbegi Avenue in Tbilisi. It’s the only registered crypto point at a Georgian land border we know of. Call ahead to confirm hours and whether they handle cash.
Guria, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Racha
Four regions, no machines, no offices.
- Guria (Ozurgeti). About 109,000 people. The nearest physical options are Batumi’s buy-only machines and exchange offices, or Kutaisi’s West Point to sell.
- Samtskhe-Javakheti (Akhaltsikhe). About 154,000 people, with no machine anywhere from Borjomi to Akhalkalaki on Cryptomat’s list.
- Mtskheta-Mtianeti (Mtskheta). About 94,000 people. Mtskheta is a short drive from Tbilisi, so in practice residents use the capital. Machines in Tskneti and Lisi appear on Cryptomat’s list under Tbilisi, inside the city limits.
- Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti (Ambrolauri). About 30,000 people, the smallest region. Kutaisi is the nearest town with a machine.
Nearest physical options by region
When you do need a machine that pays out or a face-to-face exchange office, this is where we’d head from each region. Distances and journey times vary, so treat it as a direction, not a timetable.
| From | Machine that buys back | Registered exchange office |
|---|---|---|
| Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Mtskheta | Tbilisi (9 machines) | Tbilisi |
| Samegrelo, Racha, Imereti | Kutaisi, West Point | Tbilisi or Batumi |
| Guria, Kobuleti | Kutaisi, West Point | Batumi |
| Samtskhe-Javakheti | Tbilisi or Kutaisi | Tbilisi |
| Crossing from Turkey | Kutaisi or Tbilisi | Sarpi (Coinero), Batumi |
Always check a sell-capable machine’s status on cryptomat.com on the day you travel, and message an office before you set off. A registered address is not a promise of a cash desk.
Online routes that work in any town
Where there’s no machine, the phone does the work. These options are the same in Ambrolauri as in Vake.
Use your bank app if you're with TBC
TBC’s mobile bank sells around 30 crypto assets from $1, with Bybit Georgia executing the trades and no separate registration. It was commission-free during the launch phase. Details in crypto apps in Georgia.
Or open an account at a registered exchange
Cryptal, Bybit Georgia and WhiteBIT Georgia are all on the NBG register. At Cryptal, a GEL bank transfer, BOG Pay and TBC Pay are free and a Georgian card costs 2%. You verify once with ID and a selfie.
Pay cash at a PayBox terminal if you prefer
PayBox runs more than 8,000 terminals and sells crypto through five registered exchanges: Cryptal, Coinmania, WhiteBIT, CityPay and Bitanica. We haven’t mapped which regional terminals show the crypto category, so check the one in your town. See buying crypto with cash.
Sell back to your card or account
Without a machine that pays out, selling means a registered exchange that pays to your Georgian card or bank account, or P2PP2PPeer-to-peer: you buy crypto from another person and pay them directly (e.g. by TBC or Bank of Georgia transfer) while the platform holds their coins in escrow. with a buyer who pays lari into your account. Read the P2P guide and how to cash out crypto first.
If you hold a foreign card instead, global platforms take Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay. CEX.IO, for example, has operated since 2013, holds US state money-transmitter licences (NMLS 1804170) and is registered with the UK FCA as a cryptoasset business (FRN 1007192). It has no GEL wallet and no P2P, and it’s not on the Georgian register.
No machine in your town? You can still buy from your phone.Card purchases settle in USD or EUR. The fee is shown before you confirm.
Get startedThe occupied territories
Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia) are under Russian occupation and outside the Georgian government’s control. No Georgian-registered crypto provider operates there, and the NBG register lists no office in either. Some global platforms reportedly block Abkhazia as a disputed region while serving the rest of Georgia. Everything on this site, from the legal rules to the 0% tax treatment, applies only to territory under Georgian government control.
Abkhazia does appear in crypto news because of mining. The de facto authorities have banned and re-allowed it several times, and mining has been blamed for a large share of the territory’s winter electricity shortage. That’s background, not a route to buy or sell.
Where to go next
If you’re in a region with no infrastructure, the practical plan is simple: buy online through a registered provider, sell back to your Georgian account, and save any cash-for-USDT exchange for a trip to Tbilisi or Batumi. For the full overview of methods, start with how to buy crypto in Georgia, and check any provider against the list of licensed crypto exchanges.
