Plenty of people in Georgia mined Pi on their phones for years and now want to know what it is worth in lari. The honest answer is that Pi can be sold, but not in any shop, ATM or local exchange office. Every legitimate sale goes through a short list of international exchanges approved by Pi Network itself, and the lari only appear at the very end, after a stop in USDT.
This page walks you through that route from Georgia: what needs to be finished in the Pi app first, which approved exchanges actually accept Georgian residents, how the PI → USDT → GEL math works, and the scams aimed at Pioneers in local Telegram and Facebook groups.
Can you use or sell Pi in Georgia at all?
Pi Network switched on its Open Network at 8:00 UTC on 20 February 2025. From that moment the Mainnet was connected to the outside world: Pi could leave the Pi ecosystem and trade on exchanges. Before that date, any “Pi price” you saw was for IOU tokens that weren’t real Pi.
What did not change is the local picture. None of the usual Georgian routes handles Pi:
- Cryptomat, the largest crypto ATM network in Georgia (about 150 machines, NBG registration 0005-9404), lists only LTC, BTC, USDT, ETH and BCH. There is no Pi option on any machine. If you are curious about the network anyway, our crypto ATM guide covers it.
- Cryptal, the NBG-registered local exchange (0002-9404), lists 31 assets — Pi is not one of them.
- TBC’s in-app crypto trading, launched in May 2026 with about 30 assets, has not published a coin list we could read, and we found no sign of Pi there.
Crypto is also not legal tender in Georgia, and Georgian businesses may not accept it as payment. So “paying with Pi” in a Tbilisi café or buying a phone with Pi on mymarket.ge is not a real option, whatever group chats claim.
Before you sell: KYC, migration and lockups
Only Pi that sits in your own Mainnet wallet and is unlocked can be sent to an exchange. Getting there takes two steps inside the Pi app.
First, KYC: Pi verifies your identity before any mined balance can move to the Mainnet. Second, the Mainnet Checklist in the Mainnet tab of the Pi mining app: you create your wallet in Pi Browser, set up the passphrase and confirm the migration.
Pi has set deadlines for this. The grace period started on 1 July 2024 and was extended to 28 February 2025. New Pioneers get three months to submit KYC after becoming eligible (30 mining sessions) and six months to migrate. Pioneers who miss a deadline keep only the Pi mined in the six months before their first migration. The timer pauses while KYC is “tentative” or stuck because of the system, so don’t panic if your status has been frozen for weeks.
Which exchanges list Pi — and which work from Georgia
Pi Network keeps an official KYBKYBKnow Your Business — the company version of KYC. Pi Network only lets Pioneers move PI to exchanges that passed its KYB. list of businesses it has verified. It currently names twelve: Kraken, OKX, Bitget, Gate, MEXC, LBank, Pionex, Banxa, Onramper, Onramp.money, TransFi and Zypto. Pi’s own advice is to be extremely cautious about transacting Pi with anyone not on that list.
Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, WhiteBIT, CEX.IO, Coinbase and Crypto.com are not on the KYB list. Binance ran a community vote in February 2025 but didn’t list PI at launch, according to press reports; we could not confirm a current PI market on Binance or Bybit, so don’t send Pi there.
Here is how the main KYB-listed exchanges look from Georgia:
| Exchange | Georgia in restricted list? | GEL route afterwards | NBG-registered? |
|---|---|---|---|
| OKX | No | Own GEL P2P, deep book | No |
| Bitget | No | Own GEL P2P, few ads | No |
| Gate | No | GEL P2P page exists, listings unverified | No |
| Kraken | No | No GEL — move USDT elsewhere | No |
| MEXC | Not listed in its terms | GEL P2P, few ads | No |
“Not restricted” means Georgia is absent from the exchange’s published list of banned countries; it does not guarantee every feature works. None of these platforms is on the NBG register of virtual asset service providers — only Bybit and WhiteBIT are among global brands — so you deal with them as a foreign service. When we checked, OKX showed both a PI/USDT spot pair and 113 ads from people buying USDT for lari, most of them paying via Bank of Georgia or TBC. That combination is why OKX is the most direct option for most Pioneers; our OKX review explains the account side.
Kraken has no lari and no P2P market. If you sell Pi there, you’ll need to move the USDT to another platform to turn it into lari — for example Bybit’s P2P, which had the most GEL ads in our check, or an NBG-registered exchange. Pick the same network (TRC-20, for instance) on both sides of the transfer, or the money can be lost. It’s one extra hop, but if you already hold a Kraken account it may beat opening a new one.
How to sell Pi and receive lari
The route below assumes a Georgian bank account. The same flow works for expats with an account at TBC or Bank of Georgia.
Finish KYC and migration
Open the Pi app, complete KYC and every item on the Mainnet Checklist. In Pi Browser, check that the Pi Wallet shows a transferable balance, not only a locked one.
Open an account on a KYB-listed exchange
Pick OKX, Bitget, Gate or Kraken and pass its KYCKYCKnow Your Customer: identity checks (passport, selfie, sometimes proof of address) that licensed services must run before you trade. with your passport or Georgian ID. Turn on two-factor authentication before you deposit anything.
Deposit Pi with the exact address and memo
On the exchange, choose Deposit → PI. Copy the address and, if the screen shows one, the memo — a missing memo is the most common reason a deposit gets lost. Send a small test amount from the Pi Wallet first, wait until it is credited, then send the rest.
Sell PI for USDT
Go to the PI/USDT spot market. A market order fills immediately; a limit order lets you set the price. At OKX the base fee is 0.08% maker / 0.10% taker; Bitget charges 0.1% either way.
Sell USDT for lari
Open the exchange’s P2P section with GEL as currency, choose a buyer with a high completion rate who pays to your bank, and release the USDT only when the lari are in your account — not when you see a screenshot. Our P2P guide covers the details.
Keep your records
Save the trade history, P2P order numbers and bank statements. Georgian banks may ask about incoming transfers from strangers, and a clean paper trail answers that in minutes.
If you’d rather avoid P2P, send the USDT to a Georgian registered exchange such as Cryptal, which accepts crypto deposits free of charge and offers selling to a card or bank account. Our guide to cashing out crypto compares those exits.
Pi to GEL: how the numbers work
Because there is no PI/GEL market, the lari amount depends on two prices: PI in dollars and USDT in lari. The live converter at the top of this page does the first part. Here is a worked example with a round, purely illustrative PI price:
| Step | What happens | 1,000 PI example |
|---|---|---|
| Sell on exchange | 1,000 PI at an illustrative $0.08 | 80 USDT |
| Trading fee | 0.10% taker at OKX | −0.08 USDT |
| P2P sale | USDT sold at about 2.59 GEL | ≈ 207 GEL |
At the time of writing PI traded around $0.076 on OKX, and USDT changed hands for roughly 2.58–2.60 GEL on Binance, Bybit and OKX P2P. Both move constantly — PI in particular can swing by double-digit percentages in a day — so treat the table as a method, not a quote.
Need USDT for something else after selling Pi?Operating since 2013; Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay. No GEL wallet, no P2P.
Get startedBuying Pi from Georgia
“Buy pi coin” searches mostly lead to the same exchanges. The practical route from Georgia mirrors the sale in reverse: buy USDT with lari through P2P on OKX or Bitget, then buy PI on the PI/USDT market. Several on-ramps on the KYB list — Banxa, Onramper, Onramp.money and TransFi — sell crypto by card, but we could not confirm that any of them sells PI to Georgian cards, so check inside the widget before paying.
Two things to keep in mind. First, Pi bought on an exchange stays there unless you withdraw it to a Pi Wallet; the exchange holds the keys. Second, nothing here is a recommendation to buy: PI has a short trading history and big price swings, and we don’t make price forecasts. Our coins overview shows what else is actually available in Georgia.
Pi scams aimed at Georgian Pioneers
Pi’s official safety page is short and blunt: only ever enter your Pi Wallet passphrase in the Pi Wallet app, beware look-alike sites, apps and impersonators, and treat any channel not on the official list as unofficial. The patterns below are widely reported in Pioneer communities:
- The inflated buyer. Someone in a Telegram or Facebook group offers many times the market price — often quoting the “GCV” figure — then asks for your 24-word passphrase or a small “verification” transfer.
- The P2P “Pi for lari” deal. A stranger offers to pay to your TBC or Bank of Georgia account, sends a fake payment screenshot, and asks you to transfer the Pi first.
- Pre-listed Pi. Tokens called “Pi” sold on venues outside the KYB list are not real Pi.
- Fake Pi Wallet apps and sites that harvest passphrases.
Tax and paperwork
For individuals, income from selling crypto is not treated as Georgian-source income, so personal income tax is 0% under the Ministry of Finance’s 2019 public decision. That doesn’t cover everything — business activity or a crypto salary are different stories — and our crypto tax guide explains the caveats. What does matter in practice is your bank: keep the exchange statements that show the lari came from selling Pi, especially if the amounts are large.
